Clothing swap items

This is a Nick & Mo skirt from Modcloth Stylish Surprise, new with tags. This is one of the "Medium" items I ordered. I believe it's a size 27. Sorry for it being rotated, Blogger automatically uploaded it that way.

Vintage Find- My First Vintage Thrift Store Find

Found this beautiful vintage 1960's Jackie Kennedy inspired dress at the Border Flea Market in Brownsville, TX for $5. Everything was 50% because the owner was closing her shop in 2 weeks. I haven't worn it yet because it's still summer here, and it's made of a heavy material. But it is perfect for church or a winter wedding! I can't wait to wear it. I'll have to make a few repairs, but nothing too complicated.

Shopping tips: Go to that thrift store or section you're not sure about. You'll find the best things where you would least expect it. I stumbled upon this dress, and didn't even get to try it on before buying it, but it fits like it was made for me!

A Fashionable Introduction

My style is a mix of modern and a throwback to eras past. I love Victorian era fashion, 20's, 40's, 50's, 60's, and 90's fashion. The 80's fashion style isn't so much an inspiration as the colorful nature of it. But all in all I think designers of the clothes I like were probably influenced by 80's fashion. I am all about the details: neck bows, pleated skirts, ruched sleeves, ruffled hems, sweetheart necklines, tie waists, ruffle sleeves, embroidery, faux sweetheart necklines, lace, swiss dots, you name it. I like my clothes to show off the natural feminine figure without being revealing. I love bright colorful prints, and am having to kind of force myself to tone it down and buy more things that are neutral and don't have prints seeing as they are easier to match and for a more mature look (people often think I am much younger than I am!)

ModCloth has been a style inspiration for me ever since I discovered it back in 2008. And this year I became a ModCloth Style Ambassador, and have recently (in the past few weeks) become almost obsessed with it. They are hands-down the funnest website, having great sales, frequent contests, and fun grab-bag style sales.

You can save $15 to $20 on your first purchasse of $50 or more when you make a new Modcloth account using this link:

My style icon is Zooey Deschanel. She even inspired my haircut (the bangs).

Here's just a few of the dresses in my wardrobe:
I got this dress a couple of years ago. It was really popular and sold out several times after being restocked on ModCloth. From the moment I saw it I fell in love with. But when I finally ordered it and I received it I was disappointed to find that the sweetheart neckline which lay below the lace sat too low on my chest. I've wore it once, on New Year's Eve 2011, with a blazer, buttoned, and only took it off to take one photo with my best friend, having to pull the dress up before taking the photo. I never wore it again, not wanting to have to worry about pulling it up at the chest while wearing it. I thought about getting it altered to shorten the lace , but I don't know if it's possible. Finally taking the advice from reviewers of the dress on ModCloth recently, I tried it on with a cami underneath. The cami I tried it on with was an oatmeal cream color which just did not look good. But yesterday I tried it on with a grey cami for a photo (the one above) and I think it makes it wearable. The cami is a dark grey with a hint of blue I guess cause it goes pretty well with the dress. In the photo you can't really tell but there is a difference in the colors. However I am excited to actually wear the dress and would rather wear a cami underneath than wear it as is.

The dress itself.

Saw this dress on my way out of Burlington Coat factory with nothing in hand. Its beautiful orange (favorite color) and blue combo caught my eye. I paired it with this chestnut braided belt because the light brown faux leather skinny bow belt it came with is kind of tight. I chose comfort over fashion that night.

Probably my favorite dress that I own in terms of the whole package: the style and the way it fits me. It has pretty embroided roses and a flowy skirt amid its polka dot print. The white lines are some kind of inset. It has a 50's feel to it. I certainly feel like part of that era when I wear it. I think the tights make it more modern. I think I actually prefer it without the tights, but this is the more modest look and this was me wearing the dress to church.

Thanks for checking out my first post on my first blog!
